Recalculating

Article of the day:

I stumbled across an article in the NYTimes Fashion & Style section that outlines America's newest lusty love triangle: man, woman, GPS voice.

The woman who started it all, Australian Karen, your reassuring sidekick when you are oh so lost. Just when you think you could not possibly be any more lost, Australian Karen swoops in and saves the day, telling you to turn right then proceed to destination.

Although I do appreciate Australian Karen's lusty Australian voice, I'm still not sure I trust these GPS-devices. I can't seem to rid myself of the disinclination to believe Karen when she directs me down a dark, narrow sidestreet and, when I feel my nerves getting the best of me and there seems to be no way out, she goes and quips, recalculating*.

* In GPS language, this seems to mean, you idiot, you've made a wrong turn, now I'm going to punish you by steering you into a landfill. But don't worry, I'll do it with a reassuring tone, so you'll never see it coming because you're too trusting of my technology.
